Baby talk!! Babbles and more..
Hello Ladies,
Have you ever felt that your baby understood what you just said? Or when you crack a joke, you can see your baby smile and chuckle, or it has clearly understood your instruction and is trying to follow it?
Yes, these instinctive feelings that a mother feels around baby are totally natural and also true. Sometimes, it makes you wonder if your baby has some kind of superpower.
My daughter has always been fussy while bathing since day one. She hated when the nurses gave her a bath, she never liked the caregiver giving her a bath either. She is 5 months old, and I am still not very confident in giving her a bath all by myself, so I have hired a caregiver to bathe and massage her in the mornings aka "Maalish didi".
Just last week when she was on leave, I decided to give her a bath myself. I placed her in the baby bather and gently poured water on her. To my surprise, instead of crying like she usually does , she smiled at me and thoroughly enjoyed her bath. This was the first time in almost 5 months, when she hadn't cried and since then she started loving her bath time!!!
It's nothing short of a miracle, to witness the trust a new born has in it's mother. She somehow understood that bathing is safe and since I did it, she has started enjoying every bit of it from that day. Now I wish I had done it sooner!!
Each time you communicate with your infant, they listen and observe and ultimately absorb every little thing you say or do.
Start your day by wishing "Good morning" and asking about the night, then continue talking about the things you usually do when you wake up, like brush your teeth, drink water, go for a walk, exercise etc.
Once that is done, you can talk to your baby in positive sentence tone about your plans for the day. If you plan on taking her out then share the plans with her with the same excitement as you would do with an adult.
Spend time reading books to your baby. It helps develop your child's vocabulary.I generally read children's fiction stories like peter pan, little red riding hood, three little pigs etc.
While reading, try and explain the moral of the story to your baby. This will eventually help your baby identify good morals and virtues.
Always use positive and motivational sentences and make sure your facial expression is calm and relaxed even during the most difficult times. Remember body language constitutes 75% of total communication. So, if your baby is fussy or having a mood swing, gently lift the baby, take a few deep breaths and try to calm the baby with a soothing song in your voice and maintain a smile on your face at all times!!
During play times, I share some fun facts with her. Like which is the largest Continent, or the tallest animal, or the highest mountain etc. I do this when I run out of baby talk.
So, yes, talking to your infant, feels surreal, when they squeak, laugh, smile or babble. Cherish these wonderful moments while they last.
Love you all!!!
Have a Momazing day!!
PS: Also, while rare, I have started smiling while arguing with my husband 😂, when my daughter is around and observing me...
