Shots please!!!

Hello friends,

With all the excitement 😉 around the birth of your child , comes the daunting task of vaccination.

The mother is always more anxious than the child, who is totally ignorant of what is going to happen at the doctor's appointment 😒.

The first shot that my daughter received was a GCB Vaccine. I was in the waiting in the hospital lounge area with my heart 💓 beating faster than a Formula 1 race cars, considering the fact that it's my daughter's turn next, made my stomach churn.

The minute we went inside, it was all pretty quick. The weight check , the length measurements and finally the shot. She cried for like 30 seconds and I soon as I started rocking her she was comfortable in my arms and fell asleep 😴. The doctor had advised me not to feed her for at least 30 to 45 minutes. In the end, it was not all that bad. The only thing my daughter demands is attention after each shot. So for a day or so she was clingy, which was adorable and cute and completely understandable.

WHO recommended charts are available with all the pediatricians and also online so that you can easily follow the timelines.

The WHO latest recommendation is an IPV (Injectable Polio Vaccine) , instead of the oral Polio drops we had in our times. You can ask your Doctor for the same. It's advisable to give IPV if available and if it's not feasible then you can give OPV also.

PRO TIP:

Make sure you feed your baby before the appointment as after every vaccination the Doctor's recommend a gap of 30 to 45 minutes before you can feed again.

Also don't forget to ask your Pediatrician for an IPV.

If your child is suffering from cold or cough before the vaccination, it is usually advised to wait till the cold and cough is cleared before you get your shots.

There is chance of your infant getting fever, so the doctor will prescribe a medicine for that along with some vitamins, especially Vitamin D.

I had given my daughter paracetamol for 2 days twice a day and that was helpful in ensuring she got the rest that she deserved.

To all the beautiful and strong mothers out there, all the best for your upcoming vaccines and do maintain and follow a good chart.

P.S: I had given my daughter regular vaccine and not the painless one. She was absolutely fine. Unless your doctor advises you to opt for a painless vaccine on account of preexisting health issues (most commonly it is advised if your infant an inherited the problem of fits or seizures), it is totally redundant.
