Breastfeeding !! - My experience
Dear Friends,
Hope you all are having a pleasant day.
In this blog, I am going to share my experience on breastfeeding and also give some pro tips which I have learnt from my ancestors and followed in my journey.
Most women believe that breastfeeding is a natural thing and it happens automatically as soon as the baby is born. Let me tell you something, breastfeeding is an acquired art. It reaches you to be patient, kind , gentle, focused and most importantly loving.
You have already experienced sharing your womb , so a part of your body belonged to your little one, but once they are born, you have to share your breasts. This might not be as easy as it sounds.
When my daughter tried to latch on me for the very first time, at the hospital, I grabbed the nurse's hand in pain. It felt a sharp pinch and my nipples were sore for the first fifteen days. Sharing your body every few hours is tiring, sometimes even dressing up becomes stressful, with the thought of feeding again.
If like me, you believe in breastfeeding your baby exclusively for 6 months, without pumping and using a bottle ever, then for the first three months you definitely cannot leave your infant for more than 2 hours!. Then from the third month they gain strength and suckle more milk in every feed and stay up to 4 or 5 hours.
Each time I leave my infant home and step out, I do have this constant pressure of returning on time to feed the baby, so whenever I plan to meet my friends or family, I usually invite them over, or go to a place nearby, so that I can come home easily.
It's with constant practice, that now feeding is like a normal thing to do for me. I have breastfed in restaurants, malls, cars, office, everywhere.
PRO TIP:
1) I used to eat two pieces of dates after every feed. It keeps my energy up and also boosts milk supply.
2) If you are pregnant then have milk with a spoon of Shatavari(Asparagus racemosu) Indian Herb. It is easily available in any herbal store or online. I got shatvari from a local store in it's original form then had to grind it, in order to consume.
For all the Mommies out there , you are doing an amazing thing!! Also, never be afraid to breastfeed in public, it's perfectly normal thing to do.
If for any reason your baby is formula fed, then please don't judge yourself. What is important is your baby is fed and happy. "Bestfed baby" is what we should be looking at , and not just breastfed.
P.S:
I was bottle fed and a braces girl, so I would want to avoid that for my daughter, as bottle nipple causes misalignment of your baby's teeth.
