Airplane mode on!!!
Hello Wonderful,
Traveling in an airplane has always been very exciting. The view of the sky, view of the ground from above, the vast airport terminals, shopping spree, the coffee shops, etc. The "love you's" said at the airport are more sincere than we sometimes find at the weddings. The emotional goodbyes, the million dreams and anticipation of the next, the whole World around you seems surreal, if you are like me a total romantic.
I was also delighted to find a live singing band at Hyderabad Airport!!! I didn't move until the final call for my flight was announced.
Obviously, like most passengers on board I would pray to not be seated near a crying infant, or if lucky not have an infant at all during my entire flight.
I had no idea "Karma" would land me in the similar situation very soon. We had decided to take a family vacation, when my daughter was 2.5 month old!! Not to be a spoil sport, I immediately agreed, since we were traveling in group and called my Pediatrician for advice.
The Doctor cleared her for air travel, it was only a 45 minute journey and advised me to carry nasal drops and cotton rounds to protect the ears.
Pro Tip: Once you pass the baggage counter, there is a separate security check-in at some of the airports, if you are traveling with an infant, ask the staff for directions, sometimes they tend to forget. Also remember to collect the boarding pass of your baby and have a copy of birth certificate handy.
You can carry your baby or use a stroller like I did. The airport staff will allow stroller as cabin luggage and they will collect it before you board the plane. Having a cover for your stroller will help in easy handling.
As soon I reached the terminal gate, my daughter was hungry and I had to feed her. The feeding room at the Airports are very clean and comfortable. After feeding and a diaper change we were all set to board the flight and I was pretty confident my nasal drops and cotton round trick would work. But then as soon as the flight began to ascend, my daughter started feeling the difference in air pressure and she cried uncontrollably for a full 5 minutes. It was like hell for me, as nothing was able to calm her down. Once the pressure in the cabin stabilized she started to smile!!. The same thing happened during descent.
Pro Tip: Always try to feed the baby while take-off and landing. It's okay to take a hungry baby on board. Once the plane starts to leave the runway, you can either breast-feed or bottle feed or use a pacifier. Only the sucking action will help to relieve the built up pressure. Nothing else will work. Trust me on this!!
My return journey was extremely comfortable, as my daughter was hungry and I didn't feed her at the airport. I fed her during take-off and then she slept through the entire journey.
Have a safe and happy journey..!!
PS: Don't bother if the other passengers stare at you when your baby cries. It's alright. They have been through this or will experience one in future. You are a great Mom anyway!!
Love you all!!! See you around and if you have any further questions please use the comment section.
